About the Role

Working in partnership with hospital colleagues on specific wards you will Identify and support unpaid / family carers (including young carers) in the hospital setting.

You will also engage with hospital Health Care Professionals so that they are aware of our services.  You will act as an advocate where appropriate, attending multi–disciplinary meetings, hospital discharge meetings and writing letters and making phone calls on carers’ behalf and encouraging self-advocacy.

This role is based within the hospital with some home working for case management and administration purposes.  The post holder will also occasionally work from other locations within Surrey, such as community buildings, other hospital settings and our offices in Burpham, Guildford.  For funding reasons, these posts are initially offered on a fixed term contract up to 31 March 2025.

There are two posts available

  • one full-time post (36 hours) at East Surrey Hospital
  • one part-time post (21.6 hours) at Epsom Hospital

About You

You must have experience of working with and advocating for adults and families and have an understanding of carers rights.  You will have knowledge of legislation relevant to carers and disabled people. You will be a confident communicator and be able to run training and information sessions to groups.

As you will be working in a hospital setting, ideally you will also have an understanding of clinical ways of working, so that you can establish a presence in this busy, changing environment.

This role is subject to an adult enhanced DBS check.  East Surrey Hospital may also request that you complete additional recruitment checks (such as health checks) as a condition of working in the hospital setting.

As you may be required to attend meetings, groups and events across East Surrey or at our offices in Guildford and therefore a driving license and use of car is required.
