Emergency support for carers over the holidays

Action for Carers shuts for a few days over the break. If you find yourself in need of urgent support over Christmas and New Year then please see below for where to go for help. We reopen on Tuesday 2nd January 2024.

Support over Christmas

We close on the afternoon of Friday 22nd of December.

Our office reopens on Tuesday 2nd January, with our Hubs and events restarting from the week commencing Monday 8th January.

If you need support during this time you’ll find the opening times of other organisations available during the festive period below.

For financial, welfare and wellbeing support, you can access information online in SCC’s health and welfare  online support hub.

If you need to speak to someone, you can also contact SCC’s Community Helpline for help and information: 0300 200 1008 (9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays)

Concerns of abuse or neglect

If you’re at risk of abuse of neglect, or suspect someone else is, you need to report it. To do this, contact the Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH, comprising staff rom Adult Social Care, Children’s Social Care, Health, and Surrey Police).

Safe Havens

Surrey’s Safe Havens provide our of hours help and support to people and their carers, who are experiencing a mental health crisis or emotional distress.

They can be an alternative to A&E, and are open evenings, weekends and bank holidays. There are Havens in Aldershot, Epsom, Guildford, Redhill and Woking, plus specialist Safe Havens for people aged 18-25 (with reduced opening times).

Samaritans

You can also call The Samaritans at any time on 116 123 – calls are free 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.

Provides essential support for under 25s, including help in a crisis. More here.

General Health

Pharmacists are trained experts and can help with many common problems and GP practices are also here to help.

Food Banks

Times are tough for carers, and if you are struggling and need emergency food and supplies, the Trussell Trust has a list of local foodbanks which will be operating their own opening times over Christmas – you can find more information here.

Warm Hubs

Surrey has a number of community venues, such as community centres and libraries, which run regular ‘Warm Hubs’ – come inside, warm up, enjoy a hot drink and receive energy advice and more.
