Mental Health Carers Support Adviser

About the role

£14,831 for 18 hours per week, full-time equivalent salary is £29,662

We have a brand new Carers Support Adviser role, supporting and advocating for those who are looking after people who have a history of substance misuse.

As well as providing bespoke support to carers, the post holder will engage with professionals and the wider community, raising awareness about specific caring challenges. this is a part-time post working 18 hours per week.

Key responsibilities

Full duties are included in the job outline, key responsibilities include:

  • To provide information and/or advice, guidance, signposting and advocacy to carers
  • To support carers and families in a suitable location, this may include carers own homes, hubs, other community and public settings, and via other means such as by telephone or virtually.
  • To enable carers who are looking after a person with substance abuse, to meet other carers.
  • To facilitate and support initiatives for carers including carers networks and support groups.
  • To deliver training events for carers.
  • To deliver training seminars and other awareness raising activities to professionals, over zoom or face-to-face, either about substance abuse.
  • To maintain up to date awareness of provision of external services related to mental heath and substance abuse, in order to provide signposting and advocacy services for carers, and to contribute to internal & external information points.

About you:

You will:

  • Have experience of working with and advocating for adults and families.
  • Have effective practice in safeguarding adults and children at risk.
  • Have an awareness of issues for carers of people with mental health conditions, an understanding of the Care Act and knowledge of continuing healthcare.
  • Have professional experience working with people effected by substance abuse, or their carers.
  • Have experience of initiating contact and forming good working relationships with health professionals.
  • Be confident to deliver and facilitate training and information sessions to professionals both in person and over video conferencing.
  • Have good IT skills.
  • Be Confident in updating carer records.
