Free flu jabs for Surrey carers

Free flu jabs for unpaid carers in Surrey
Flu season is here and runs through to March – and Surrey’s unpaid carers are being urged to get their flu jab. The vaccine is free for carers and offers vital protection for both you and the person you care for.
Carers in Surrey can receive their jab at their GP surgery, a local pharmacy (some with walk-in services), through their midwife if pregnant, or at school for children from Reception to Year 11.
You are eligible for a free NHS flu jab if you receive Carer’s Allowance, or if you are the main carer for an older, disabled or vulnerable person. Others who qualify include adults aged 65 and over, people with certain long-term health conditions, pregnant women, frontline health and social care workers, and those living with someone at high risk.

FAQs about flu jabs for carers
1. Can I get a free flu jab as a carer?
Yes. If you receive Carer’s Allowance, or if you are the main carer for an older, disabled or vulnerable person, you are entitled to a free NHS flu vaccination.
2. Why should carers have the flu jab?
Protecting yourself helps prevent passing the flu to the person you care for, especially if they are older, have a disability, or are living with a health condition.
3. Where can I get my flu jab in Surrey?
You can book at your GP surgery, a participating local pharmacy, through the NHS website, or by calling 119. Pregnant women may be offered it through midwives, and children get it in school.
4. What if I’m not eligible for a free NHS jab?
You can still choose to have a private flu vaccination at many Surrey pharmacies, usually for a small cost.
5. When’s the best time to get vaccinated?
Autumn and early winter are the best times, before flu season peaks. But it’s still worth getting the jab later in the season if you haven’t already.
