Carers Rights in Action
Action for Carers runs free courses for professionals to better understand how to identify, support and refer carers.
Carer Rights in Action follows on from our Because Carers Count course. Carers Rights in Action looks at carers’ needs and rights in more depth, particularly exploring statutory obligations, safeguarding and the law.
Course content
The Carers Rights in Action course will look at:
- Tools to understand the needs and concerns of a carer and what to do next
- Carers Law – what you need to know
- Carers Rights – outlined in detail
- Carers Assessments – the benefits and how to help a carer understand them
- Triangle of care – the benefits for all involved
- Confidentiality and information sharing – involving carers in conversations
- Safeguarding – what to consider if you are submitting for a carer or cared for

Please note this course runs regularly, and follows on from our Because Carers Count training.
We also have regular training aimed at staff in Surrey’s schools. We can also provide tailored training on request, for example for GP Practice staff.
