Mike Corrigan

Trustee

Since the age of 16, by chance not design, I  have worked supporting people to live the life they choose. I have had a blessed career working in health and social care; I have two nursing qualifications, qualified Social Worker and management degrees.

And as to me personally, I have a life-long passion for motorbikes, love music and concerts of all sorts, and am a fan of walking in the woods, especially in the rain! Plus I’m a life-long Liverpool supporter!

I live in Surrey, with family here and in other parts of the country. I’m a parent, and a grandad, with kids and grandkids in abundance.

In that space, I’ve experience of caring for my loved people, and some have needed to be supported by others, by services. I’ve experienced what it’s like to be on the receiving end of watching those I care about not being listened to and often ‘done to’ and not ‘done with’.

As a dad, I’m yet to experience the done with part. And as a parent I have needed to reach out for support from organisations and others, and it was, at times, a lifeline.

I’m joining Action for Carers to be supportive to others when they need it, alongside using my professional experience to contribute to how things could be different – and I’m passionate about that.
