50th anniversary of Carer's Allowance - open letter to Secretary of State
50th anniversary of Carer’s Allowance – Open letter to Secretary of State
We have joined other charities across the UK in signing an open letter calling for greater recognition and support for unpaid carers. Led by Carers UK, the campaign brings together organisations calling for meaningful change.
Signed by our Chief Executive, Tim Bevan, the letter is part of a campaign led by Carers UK to mark 50 years since the introduction of Invalid Care Allowance, now known as Carer’s Allowance. This milestone is a significant opportunity to see whether the current system is meeting carers’ and ensure it provides carers with sustainable and meaningful financial support
The campaign is calling for a comprehensive review of Carer’s Allowance. This includes looking at the rate of payment and eligibility criteria, as well as how caring intersects with employment, social security and poverty more broadly.
By signing the letter, we are supporting this campaign to help amplify carers’ voices and ask for meaningful change.
