King hosts Carer Reception at Windsor Castle

The King and Queen held a reception to honour and celebrate the UK’s carers.

Held on 11th February, it was attended by carers, politicians, and carers charities from across the country.

We were please to be one of the organisations invited, and our Chief Executive Officer Tim Bevans attended on behalf of ACS, representing the Surrey’s 100,000 plus unpaid carers aged 5-99.

Highlighting carers’ needs

As well as meeting the King, Tim spent some time talking with Sir Kier Starmer, discussing young carers in particular and their mental health needs.

He also talked with actress Patricia Hodge, who described her experiences caring for her husband who had dementia – and the lack of support she’d experienced.

You can read more about the event, including the views of some carers attending on Carers Trust’s website.

A message to carers

The aim was to highlight, recognise and celebrate the nation’s millions of carers, the King recognising the challenges they face and the need for more to be done.

As part of the event, he issued his message to carers, to be shared – you can read that here.
