Autism Acceptance Day for Carers

On Friday, we welcomed over 40 Surrey carers to a unique experience aboard the Autism Bus, part of our Autism Acceptance event. This innovative, immersive, and hands-on session is designed to give neurotypical individuals a glimpse into the neurodiverse world and offer insight into the sensory processing challenges faced by autistic people.

Many carers described the experience as “intense and insightful,” highlighting how valuable it was to better understand what everyday life can feel like for someone who is Autistic. Following the bus experience, carers were invited to debrief with Rachel, our Head of Adult Services, and share their reflections, emotions, and any personal challenges the experience brought to light.

The day also featured a busy marketplace of support services, related to caring and autism.  Carers had the chance to chat with a wide range of organisations, including Luminus, SCC’s Transition, Family Voice Surrey, L Spa, Pegasus, the Family Information Service, National Autistic Society Surrey and Action for Carers staff. It was a fantastic opportunity to discover what ongoing support is available for Surrey carers.

A big thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to making the event such a success.
