Consultations and campaigns

Your experiences as a carer – good and bad – are hugely important. Your views are extremely valuable to help make changes for the better for all carers, both in Surrey and nationally.

There are several ways you can share your experiences and express your views – and make a  difference.

The ‘Giving Carers a Voice’ programme

Luminus is a Surrey based independent community interest company which exists to empower people to have their voices heard.

Their ‘Giving Carers A Voice’ team are commissioned by Surrey County Council to listen to the experiences of carers ( of all ages) to ensure their views are heard in the design and delivery of the services that they use.

They do this by attending events and groups to speak directly to carers and hear their views.

If you’d like to share your views with Luminus, or find out more about consultations, you can see the specific carer voice information here:

Action for Carers

At Action for Carers we encourage carers using OUR services, to feed back their views.

We hold monthly consultations (see our events pages for listings) and also have a Compliments and Complaints process.

Consulting young people

For young carers, we have a Forum, enabling young people aged 18 and under to use their voice and share their views on our services and others’.

There is a junior forum for children aged 8-11 and a senior forum for 12 upwards. Our forum members contribute their ideas, and many have spoken at events, on television and on radio, gaining new skills and making young carers’ situations real for professionals and public.

External consultations

There are also many surveys, consultations and studies that want to hear from carers, that take place both in Surrey and nationally.

Opportunities range from being part of focus groups, to one-off sessions, and questionnaire-style feedback. There are usually many ways to give your views.

Campaigns

Action for Carers is often involved with, or actively supporting, campaigns that will benefit carers.

These can be Surrey-based, working jointly with other charities and organisations in Surrey, or national, joining campaigns led by Carers UK or Carers Trust.
