Mental Health Carer Practice Team Manager

full-time, 36 hours per week

About the role

Starting salary is £32,470

In this brand new role, you will manage a team of 5 FTEs, all focused on supporting and advocating for those who are looking after people with mental health conditions.

Alongside your management role, you will have your own responsibilities, working alongside colleagues within the Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to embed carer friendly practice.  This will be through training and engagement activities and providing bespoke advice and support.

Your base will be your home for planning and recording purposes, but your time will be spent in Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (SABP) settings.

This post is jointly funded by Surrey County Council Adult Social Care (ASC), NHS Surrey Heartlands Integrated Care Board (ICB) and NHS Frimley ICB on a two year contract, with the possibility of a further extension of one year.

Key responsibilities

Full duties are included in the job outline, key responsibilities include:

  • To manage the team, ensuring that they in turn are managing their workload and providing a needs led service.
  • To provide quantitative and qualitive data, including case studies to evidence the support the involvement of Action for Carers.
  • To support SABP carers training programme, to ensure that the prevention and wellbeing offer for carers in Surrey is promoted.
  • To facilitate consultation groups to enable carers who are looking after those with mental health conditions, to have a voice and feedback, this could be in collaboration with partner charities.
  • To promote and encourage the use of Surrey Carers Prescription and the triangle of care amongst SABP staff.
  • To guide and advise Surrey and Borders staff when they require support with complex issues, as well as to hold a case load.

About you

You will:

  • Have the skills or experience to manage a team.
  • Have experience of working with and advocating for adults and families
  • Have effective practice in safeguarding adults and children at risk.
  • Have an awareness of issues for carers of people with mental health conditions, a working understanding of the triangle of care, knowledge of continuing healthcare and basic understanding of mental health conditions.
  • Have experience of initiating contact and forming good working relationships with health professionals.
  • Be confident to deliver and facilitate training and information sessions to professionals and carers both in person and over video conferencing.
  • Have good IT skills.
  • To collaborate on projects, such as the Carer Hospital Passport and the Carers Champion initiative.
  • Confident updating carer records and also able to share record keeping good practice with your team.
