All of our lives are being impacted by coronavirus and it can be a worrying time. This is particularly true for young carers who might already be anxious about the health of someone they love.

Here we’ve got some info just for young carers! You’ll find some useful tips on managing worries, links to some great organistions and some info to help you separate the facts from the fiction when it comes to the coronavirus.

Stay Connected

Thank goodness for technology! Just because you can’t catch up so much face to face it doesn’t mean you can’t chat to your friends and family. FaceTime, video chat, email, text or calls are all great ways to catch up with people outside of your home. Try and check in with someone once a day

Get active!

You’d be surprised how much you can exercise, even in a teeny tiny space. From PE classes with Joe Wicks to Cosmic Kids yoga sessions, there are lots of ways to keep moving. Aside from keeping you fit, doing regular exercise will fill your body with endorphins AKA the happy hormones!

Get lost in a story

There's no greater escape than a good book... Libraries might be closed but have a look on your shelves at home. You can also check out some of the amazing audio books which are currently FREE (yay!) from Audible.

It's also worth checking out Surrey's libraries where you can find a load of free ebooks and magazines all available to read online.

How to manage your worries

If you’re stressing out about the current situation that’s okay. It’s completely normal to be worried. But it’s also important not to let your worries get out of control. Sometimes doing something as simple as taking a few deep breaths can help stop negative thoughts in their tracks. Here are some other things you might want to try…

Keep a journal

Girl writingWriting thoughts down can help you process them. If you’re feeling low it can help to think of things that you’re grateful for or keep track of something new you’ve learnt. Writing things down can also help you organise your thoughts and feelings and get some perspective on them.

Take care of yourself

Exercising, eating well and switching off from social media and the news are all things that are going to help you feel better. Even simple breathing exercises can help you feel a bit more in control of your worries.

Chat Health – Chat Health is a text service enabling young people at secondary school to reach out to our school nurse team to ask for help about a range of issues, or make an appointment with one of our school nurse confidentially.
