Do you look after someone who couldn’t manage without you?

Are you looking after a partner, child, friend or relative who needs support because of frailty, disability, a health condition, mental illness, or alcohol/substance misuse?

Is this care unpaid?

If this sounds like you, then you are a carer.

Caring can take its toll both mentally and physically. It is possible that your own health may suffer because of your caring responsibilities.

But Action for Carers is here to help. We have a range of services to support you in your caring role – they are free, and confidential. And we can signpost you to further sources of help and information.

How we help

One to one support

  • We have a wide range of direct, one-to-one services, including our Action for Carers Helpline. The phones are staffed by friendly and experienced Advisors, experts in caring matters, who can talk through your issues and offer advice and support.
  • We also have Carer Support Advisors working Surrey-wide – who can offer one-to-one support, and who also organise local events and activities.
  • Our Advisors can offer advice and information, and provide advocacy, as well as give emotional support.
  • You can drop-in to any of our 14 carer Hubs, open across Surrey, and speak to one of our team
  • If you have to help the person you care for physically, our Moving and Handling team can help.
  • And if the person you care for is in one of Surrey’s four main hospitals, we have Hospital Advisors there too, to ensure you get the best support and care.
  • As well as this, we also run 30+ Support Groups across the county, and online, every month, and have various workshops and information events to help you in your caring role.
