The lockdown has been especially difficult for young carers. Many have had extra responsibilities to take on, and are extra worried about the person they care for. A large number are in households with people who are shielding. And of course, like all of the UK’s children, they’ve not been at school – with many still unable to return.
Schooling at home is a challenge. And made harder by living in a household where resources are scarce. Many schools have been unable to help all young people with digital access, so we’ve been working with a range of Surrey’s community groups, to get them computers. We couldn’t have done this alone and have been extremely grateful for the kind help from a host of groups – Rotary, Lions, Soroptomists, and Brownies – to name a few!
We’re delighted to announce that so far we’ve managed to get laptops to 21 of our young carers!
However, we have a short waiting list, and anticipate a lot more demand.
Can you help?
We now want to open up this appeal more widely and are asking people for help by either donating money, or old laptops (which one of the Lions groups will recondition for us).
If you’d like to donate a laptop, get in touch via email firstname.lastname@example.org
