Information on our safeguarding processes

Safeguarding children

Safeguarding children is at the core of Surrey Young Carers’ (SYC) values and we create a safe environment where young carers can talk openly. Any disclosures or where staff identify safeguarding concerns, will be supported through the Surrey County Council Children’s Single Point of Access (C-SPA) and/or Surrey’s Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health (EWMH) alliance by the Designated Safeguarding Lead for SYC.

Action for Carers adopt a safer recruitment procedure and there is a robust induction and shadowing process which includes the importance of safeguarding. All staff are required to complete the Working Together to Safeguard Children, plus Module 2: Child Protection Conferences, Plans and Core Groups. Other training that is offered to support staff to identify different types of abuse include:

  • Child Exploitation and Countylines
  • Domestic Abuse Awareness
  • GCP2 tool
  • Honour Based Violence including FGM

SYC represents the third sector on the Surrey Safeguarding Children’s Partnership (SSCP). Moderators commented on the good range of policies available within our organisation, which is above and beyond what is expected. We were congratulated and the overall assessment of ACS was rated as GOOD. If you would like access to any of these policies or procedures around safeguarding children please contact [email protected]
